The Louisiana Purchase was one of the largest land deals in history. In 1803, the United States paid approximately $15 million dollars to France for more than 800,000 square miles of land. This land deal was arguably the greatest achievement of Thomas Jeffersons presidency, but it also posed a major philosophical problem for Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson, the Anti-Federalist Thomas Jefferson was strongly anti-federalist. Although he participated in the writing of the Declaration of Independence, he did not author the Constitution. Instead, the Constitution was mainly written by Federalists such as James Madison. Jefferson spoke against a strong federal government and instead advocated states rights. He feared tyranny of any kind and only recognized the need for a strong, central government in terms of foreign affairs. He was concerned that the Constitution did not address the liberties that were protected by the Bill of Rights and did not call for term limits for the president. Jeffersons philosophy regarding the role of the central government is most clearly seen when investigating his disagreement with Alexander Hamilton over the creation of a national bank. Hamilton was a staunch supporter of a strong central government. A national bank was not expressly mentioned in the Constitution, but Hamilton thought that the elastic clause (U.S. Const. art. I,  § 8, cl. 18) gave the government the power to create such a body. Jefferson completely disagreed. He held that all powers given to the national government were enumerated or expressed. If they were not expressly mentioned in the Constitution, then they were reserved to the states. Jeffersons Compromise In completing the Louisiana Purchase, Jefferson had to put aside his principles because this type of transaction was not expressly mentioned in the Constitution. Had he waited for a constitutional amendment, however, the deal might have fallen through. With the support of the American people, Jefferson decided to go through with the purchase. Jefferson needed to move quickly when he discovered that Spain had signed a secret treaty with France in 1801 ceding Louisiana to France. France suddenly posed a potential threat to America. The fear was that if America did not purchase New Orleans from France, it could lead to war. The change of ownership from Spain to France resulted in the closure of the ports warehouses to Americans, and it was feared that France would move to cut off Americas access to the port entirely. Jefferson sent envoys to France to try to secure the purchase of New Orleans. Instead, they returned with an agreement to buy the entire Louisiana Territory as Napoleon needed money for the impending war against England. Importance of the Louisiana Purchase With the purchase of this new territory, the land area of America nearly doubled. However, the exact southern and western boundaries were not defined in the purchase. America would have to work with Spain to negotiate the specific details of these boundaries. When Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led a small expeditionary group called the Corps of Discovery into the territory, this was just the beginning of Americas fascination with exploring the West. Whether or not America had a Manifest Destiny to span from sea to sea as was often the rallying cry of the early to mid-19th century, its desire to control this territory cannot be denied. Retail Store Manager Free Essays

Retail Manager as TrainerBy  Malcolm Fleschner, Monster Contributing Writer Since founding The Friedman Group, a global retail consulting and training organization, in 1980, Harry Friedman has heard plenty of excuses from retail store executives who refuse to provide much training to their front-line store employees. One of the most common is: â€Å"What if I train them, and they leave? † Friedman says this is the exact opposite approach they should take. He suggests a better question is, â€Å"What if I don’t train them, and they stay? † Cost of Not Training The unfortunate reality, which anyone who ventures into a mall these days can confirm, is that today’s retail store employees often lack basic sales and  customer-service  skills. We will write a custom essay sample on Retail Store Manager or any similar topic only for you Order Now This is especially true at the big-box stores where management is unconcerned about high turnover, Friedman says. Retailers that expect high turnover essentially ignore training but pay a price for doing so. â€Å"The decision to neglect training is typically made by someone at the top who does not appreciate the value of a human asset and what they can mean to sales and the bottom line,† Friedman says. Retail is a merchandise-driven business, not a people-driven business, after all. † Nevertheless, Friedman estimates that with more effective training, most retail organizations could increase sales 15 percent to 25 percent. â€Å"That’s a lot of money,† he says. â€Å"There’s no chance they could hit those numbers any other way. † Management by Numbers Individual store managers would no doubt also appreciate increasing the six to eight hours that Friedman says retail stores typically devote to training new employees. But since a boost in training time is unlikely to happen, store managers must focus on those aspects of employee management they can control. To start, he suggests looking at two key numbers. The first is conversion rates, which means if a sales associate talked to 10 customers, how many bought something? â€Å"If you sold two out of the 10 people you talked to and you can bump that up to three of the 10 people you talked to, you’ve just increased your sales 50 percent,† says Friedman, author of  No Thanks, I’m Just Looking: Professional Retail Sales Techniques for Turning Shoppers into Buyers. The second number is average sale per customer. â€Å"There are two ways to increase this number,† he says. â€Å"One [is] by selling them the $40 item instead of the $30 one. Second [is by selling] the customer the $30 [item] and also $10 in batteries to make it work. † What Seems to Be the Trouble? Armed with this information, store managers can then determine which sales associates are performing well and which aren’t. The next step is to uncover the source of any problems. If you have one sales associate with a low conversion rate, for example, you need to determine whether the problem occurs when the associate is demonstrating the merchandise or when he is trying to close the sale, Friedman says. â€Å"You might find out it’s up front,† he says. â€Å"[The associate] keeps approaching customers and saying, ‘Can I help you? ‘ and the customers say, ‘No thanks, I’m just looking. ‘ It doesn’t matter whether he can close, because he’s not getting out of the blocks in the first place. That’s the opportunity for the manager to intervene and explain to this guy that he’s using a terrible opening line. † Hit the Floor This type of hands-on coaching leads to another of Friedman’s suggestions for store managers: Get into the fray. â€Å"The biggest missing ingredient I see in retail today is that managers are not running the store from the floor,† he says. â€Å"A lot of managers are either too busy with operational paperwork or making sales for themselves to do more than just hope their salespeople are doing a good job. The best store managers, Friedman says, are always â€Å"pointing, pushing, doing and working the floor. They listen in, see how employees behave and what they say so that they can step in to reinforce the good behaviors and correct areas that need improvement. A good store manager is like a cop with a whistle directing traffic at a busy intersection. † You Can Survive the Behavioral InterviewBy  Carole Martin, Monster Contributing Writer When asked a traditional question like, â€Å"What would you do if you had a customer who wasn’t interested in buying the product? you can make up a story. But when you’re asked behavioral questions, the interviewer is listening for specific examples of how you have handled situations or problems in the past. When presented with interview questions beginning with phrases like â€Å"tell me about a time when† or â€Å"give me an example of† the interviewer wants to hear your real-life examples. When interviewers ask such behavioral interview questions, they are listening for examples of how you handled situations similar to the ones you may handle for this company. This is your chance to talk about your accomplishments. If you can demonstrate through examples (preferably recent ones) that you’ve succeeded in certain areas of interest, you’ll likely be considered a strong candidate for the position. After all, if you did it somewhere else yesterday, you can do it for this company tomorrow. Your success stories should include the situation, the action you took and the result. Here is an example if you were interviewing for a sales position: The Situation:  I had a customer who did not want to hear about the features of my merchandise because of a prior interaction with my company. The Action:  I listened to her story and made sure I heard her complaint. I then explained how I would have handled the situation differently and how I can offer her better service. I showed her some facts that changed her mind about dealing with the company again. The Result:  She not only bought the merchandise, but also complimented how I handled her account. She is now one of my best customers. One way to prepare for behavioral interview questions is by writing out your stories before the interview. Determine what stories you have that would be appropriate for the position based on its job description. If the job requires dependability, write your story about a time when your dependability was recognized or made a difference with a customer. You can use the stories you prepare even when the interviewer does not ask behavioral questions. If you are asked a traditional question, use your prepared story and preface it with, â€Å"I can give you an example of a time when I used that skill on a previous job. † By  preparing for the interview  ahead of time and recalling your past successes, you will be able to have examples in mind and will not be caught off guard. There is no way you can predict what the interviewer is going to ask you, but you can prepare what you want him to know about your past as a predictor of your future performance. The Human Brain Essays (2091 words) - Neuroanatomy, Motor System

The Human Brain The human body is divided into many different parts called organs. All of the parts are controlled by an organ called the brain, which is located in the head. The brain weighs about 2.75 pounds, and has a whitish-pink appearance. The brain is made up of many cells, and is the control centre of the body. The brain flashes messages out to all the other parts of the body. The messages travel in very fine threads called nerves. The nerves and the brain make up a system somewhat like telephone poles carrying wires across the city. This is called the nervous system. The nerves in the body don't just send messages from the brain to the organs, but also send messages from the eyes, ears, skin and other organs back to your brain. Some nerves are linked directly to the brain. Others have to reach the brain through a sort of power line down the back, called the spinal cord. The brain and spinal cord make up the central nervous system. The brain doesn't just control your organs, but also can think and remember. That part of the brain is called the mind. PROTECTING THE BRAIN Twenty-eight bones make up the skull. Eight of these bones are interlocking plates. These plates form the cranium. The cranium provides maximum protection with minimum weight, the ideal combination. The other twenty bones make up the face, jaw and other parts of the skull. Another way the brain keeps it self safe is by keeping itself in liquid. Nearly one fifth of the blood pumped by the heart is sent to the brain. The brain then sends the blood through an intricate network of blood vessels to where the blood is needed. Specialized blood vessels called choroid plexuses produce a protective cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid is what the brain literally floats in. A third protective measure taken by the brain is called the blood brain barrier. This barrier consists of a network of unique capillaries. These capillaries are filters for harmful chemicals carried by the blood, but do allow oxygen, water and glucose to enter the brain. THE DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE BRAIN The brain is divided into three main sections. The area at the front of the brain is the largest. Most of it is known as the cerebrum. It controls all of the movements that you have to think about, thought and memory. The cerebrum is split in two different sections, the right half and the left half. The outer layer of the cerebrum is called the cortex. It is mainly made up of cell bodies of neurons called grey matter. Most of the work the brain does is done in the cortex. It is very wrinkled and has many folds. The wrinkles and folds give the cortex a large surface area, even though it is squeezed up to fit in the skull. The extra surface area gives the cerebrum more area to work. Inside the cortex, the cerebrum is largely made up of white matter. White matter is tissue made only of nerve fibres. The middle region is deep inside the brain. It's chief purpose is to connect the front and the back of the brain together. It acts as a "switchboard", keeping the parts of your brain in touch with each other. The back area of the brain is divided into three different parts. The pons is a band of nerve fibres which link the back of the brain to the middle. The cerebellum sees to it that all the parts of your body work as a team. It also makes sure you keep your balance. The medulla is low down at the back of your head. It links the brain to the top of the spinal cord. The medulla controls the way your heart pumps blood through your body. It also looks after your breathing and helps you digest food. THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THEBRAIN THE BRAINSTEM: The brainstem is one of the oldest parts of the brain. It controls such functions as breathing, blood pressure, swallowing and heart rate. THE HYPOTHALMUS: This part of the brain is located directly above the brain stem. The hypothalmus controls basic drives like hunger and sex and as

Theatre comparison on 2 videos Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Theatre comparison on 2 videos - Essay Example In Arthur Miller’s Death of A Salesman, Willy, the main character, visits his boss, Howard, a man who happens to be the son of his prior boss. The scene radiates realism through the actors’ reaction of one another. It begins with Howard when he shows off his wire recorder: â€Å"Didn’t you ever see one of these? Wire recorder† and Willy asks, â€Å"Oh. Can we talk a minute?† but Howard ignores him: â€Å"Records things. Just got delivery yesterday. Been driving me crazy, the most terrific machine I ever saw in my life. I was up all night with it† (Miller.2.76). Howard is speaking animatedly. The pace of his delivery is quick and clipped as he is bursting with excitement, eager to explain every detail to Willy despite Willy’s need to talk to him about a business matter. In response, Willy’s tone is soft and submissive. When he supports the other actor, he is either ignored or shushed sternly like a child (Miller.2.77-78). The pac e and tone of each actor stems from a direct reaction to one another, thus implementing naturalism in the scene. Similarly in Blood Knot by Athol Fugard, Zachariah and Morris, half-brothers living together in South Africa, are brought to life through the actors’ interchange of dialogue through delivery. When they face each other discussing an imaginary woman in grey, their pace is prompt and heated. It sets up the notion that the characters are different from one another when Morris takes the lead on describing the imaginary scene in the park and Zachariah reacts without hesitation (Fugard.23:47-24:45). Zachariah supports Morris’s exhilarant play through a deep, monotone voice. This exchange on a verbal level creates realism because the scene is natural. Natural as defined by occurring in conformity with the ordinary course of nature: not marvelous or supernatural. Side-by-side, the plays incorporate the technique of tone and rhythm of delivery of text on different hei ghts. Howard’s swift pace of delivery exudes selfishness and pride. Later, it even displays boredom or disinterest when he addresses Willy: â€Å"But where am I going to put you, kid?...No, but it’s a business, kid, and everybody’s gotta pull his own weight† (Miller.2.80). However, Morris’s delivered exuberance shows impatient yearning, frustration and anger. He leans forward on the stage, directing his umbrella like an extension of his body then proceeds to stone the imaginary woman with pent up animation (Fugard.24:03-24:47). Immediately following, Morris beats his brother, making it a bizarre, but realistic twist because the previous dialogue set up the nature of the action through tone. There is similarity between the plays that transpire from delivery of speech. Willy and Zachariah are treated inferior by their counterparts, and they respond through dialect. Zachariah is â€Å"a black man who has endured prejudice and hate (â€Å"Blood Knot, † par. 3), but his brother fails to understand Zach’s struggle. During their role-playing, Zachariah commits to a slow pace that conveys eeriness. His tone is deliberately calm to show indifference, mirroring the state in which Morris treats him. There is no sympathy in the actor’s tone. Willy counteracts his opposer through rhythm and delivery as well. He pleads his case, but the desperation holds more weight during his lengthy speech (Miller.54:52-56:43) because the pace is crawling. The actor pauses throughout, which drives the point that Willy is a depressed, forlorn man at the end of his

A Crime and a Punishment According to the Justice System Essay

A Crime and a Punishment According to the Justice System - Essay Example The justice system that was once trusted to offer justice is now criticized and looked down upon by many. The question is what exactly went wrong with our judicial system. Jeffrey Rosen in his article the wrongful convictions as a way of life also seem to ask the same question. He writes of instances where the appellate judges termed the evidence of the innocent people’s guilt as overwhelming and also instances where the Supreme Court dismisses a request to review cases without even giving reasons for their decisions. Brandon L.Garrett, in his book convicting the innocent also points out how the courts have in many instances, failed to take their time to properly consider the evidence of innocence of the suspects before they convict them. Many of our justice systems are also characterized by greedy and corrupt judges and officers. Judges who would set a criminal free at a fee. Judges who would convict an innocent person just because a client who is offering them a good amount of money has asked them to do so. Some of the judges and the officers no longer have their countries best interest in their hearts but are working hard for their own benefits and personal interests. Our justice system is quickly turning out to be the place where a lot of injustices actually occur. The craving for power has also been a common phenomenon affecting our justice system. Judges no longer make objective judgments but make their decisions and judgments according to the political wave in order to find favour with the high and mighty.

Nuclear Energy in France and Germany Brach Hadean Nuclear Energy Germany vs. France Nuclear energy and its validity in today’s world is a topic that stirs much debate and everyone seems to have an opinion on the issue, but who is correct? When considering Europe, France and Germany are on complete opposite ends of the nuclear spectrum. Germany believes the complete shutdown of nuclear derived power is necessary for a safe and prosperous country. France, on the other hand, opt for a pro nuclear stance. I intend to compare and contrast both countries views regarding nuclear energy and hopefully reach an effective conclusion. Brief History-Then and Now Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, numerous atomic reactors are raised for producing power, utilizing diagrams amazingly like those made for the submarines. These outlines work well and produce economical, emanation free power with low mining and transportation impact. An atomic fueled future is envisioned by many people. In 1974, France chose to make an expansive push for atomic vitality, and wound up with 75 percent of their power from atomic reactors. The US fabricated 104 reactors, and obtained 20 percent of its power from them. In time, work deficiencies and development postponements began driving the expense of atomic reactors up, decelerating their development. The 1979 Three Mile Island setback and the 1986 Chernobyl mishap further postponed the sending of atomic reactors. Choking regulations brought costs higher. 1986 testing demonstrate that advanced designs(other than the ones initially used to make submarines) might be extensively more secure. In 94, the Megatons to Megawatts settlement with Russia is marked to down-mix atomic warheads into reactor fuel. Inevitably, 10% of US power originates from disassembled atomic weapons. In the late 1990s and 2000s, the sensational well being record of the US reactor armada (0 casualties) and smooth operation of reactors consolidated with continuous stresses of worldwide environmental change because of carbon emanations realizes generous talk of an atomic renaissance, where new developments may begin once more. Then, solid enthusiasm toward Asia reinforces and yearning arrangements to fabricate vast armadas are made to fulfill developing vitality needs without including more fossil fuel. On March, 2011, a vast seismic tremor and wave immerse the reactors at Fukushima Daiichi. Reinforcement diesel generators come up short and the fuel rods cant be cooled. Fuel dissolves, hydrogen develops and explodes. Radiation is discharged, yet much of it goes out to the ocean rather than into populated zones. No individuals anticipated deaths from the radiation dosage. Nuclear power is at the end of the day considered a popular option, despite the dismissal it was met with in the 1970s. This is on the grounds that its presently being touted as an environmentally advantageous solution since it transmits far less greenhouse gasses during power generation than coal or other conventional plants. It is generally acknowledged as somewhat perilous, conceivably dangerous, yet reasonable way of creating power. Radiation isnt easily managed, particularly in atomic waste and upkeep materials, and large capital are required to hold, control, and shield both individuals and nature from its mischief. FRANCE Frances decision to launch a large nuclear program dates back to 1973 and the events in the Middle East that they refer to as the oil shock. The quadrupling of the price of oil by OPEC nations was indeed a shock for France because at that time most of its electricity came from oil burning plants. France had and still has very few natural energy resources. It has no oil, no gas and her coal resources are very poor and virtually exhausted. Frances choice to dispatch an extensive atomic system goes once again to the 1970s and the events in the Middle East that they allude to as the oil shock. The quadrupling of the cost of oil by OPEC countries was undoubtedly a stun for France in light of the fact that around that time a large portion of its power hailed from oil burning factories. France had and still has very few assets. It has no oil, no gas and its coal assets are exceptionally poor and essentially depleted. Policy makers saw one route for France to accomplish its energy independence: atomic energy, a wellspring of energy so effective that a couple of pounds of fissionable uranium is all the fuel required to run a huge city for a year. Arrangements were made to present the most exhaustive national atomic energy program ever. Throughout the following 15 years France introduced 56 atomic reactors, fulfilling its energy needs and actually sending out power to other European nations. As mentioned earlier, there were a few challenges in the early 70s, however from that point forward the atomic system has been famous and amazingly non disputable. A piece of their popularity comes from the way that researchers and scientists have a much higher status in France than in America. A lot of high positioned civil servants and government authorities studied science and engineering (instead of lawyers, as in the United States). French officials have worked to get individuals to learn the benefits of atomic energy and additionally the dangers. Lustrous TV campaigns fortify the connection between nuclear power and the power that makes advanced life conceivable. plant technicians request individuals take tours, an offer that six million French individuals have completed. Today, atomic energy is a commonplace thing in France. Conversely. The Fukushima disaster led many countries to rethink their view on nuclear energy. Germany plans to abandon it altogether, but French President Francois Hollande also wants to cut nuclear output sharply by a third in 20 years. Its a big ask in a country that now relies on nuclear for 75% of its electricity. If fully implemented, the pledge would force the closure of up to 20 of the countrys 58 reactors according to Professor Laurence Tubiana a former government adviser who the president asked to facilitate a national debate, paving the way for what they call la transition energetique. This would be a huge step, but Tubiana describes it as a logical evolution. France realized that Japan had survived economically when all its atomic power stations were shut down because of its diverse energy mix. In Japan, before the disaster, nuclear power delivered about 30% of the countrys electricity, but France is hugely dependent not only on nuclear, but on a single generation of nuclear power stations.† -BBC News Magazine Nuclear Power in France France derives over 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy. This is due to a long-standing policy based on energy security. France is the worlds largest net exporter of electricity due to its very low cost of generation, and gains over EUR 3 billion per year from this. France has been very active in developing nuclear technology. Reactors and fuel products and services are a major export. It is building its first Generation III reactor. About 17% of Frances electricity is from recycled nuclear fuel. Germany Germanys choice to kill the utilization of nuclear energy has been connected with the Fukushima disaster, to the point where it is frequently been viewed as sudden and hasty. Be that as it may, Germany has been debating the utilization of atomic energy for quite some time and its recent choice is just a step, but a huge one, on a long road. Subsequently, to completely comprehend the nations recent choice, it is important to grasp the historical backdrop of Germanys atomic energy program and the powerful debate that existed inside the nation throughout the decades paving the way to this choice. Germanys nuclear program started in the late 1950s, and the first plants opened in the 1960s. Whats more just a couple of years after the opening of the first commercial atomic power plant, the opposition to atomic developments made its appearance through protests. The primary episode of note happened in the 1970s, when neighborhood gatherings figured out how to stem the development of a plant in Whyl through civil rebellion. There were numerous critics of the utilization of force by the local authority against the dissenters, bringing significantly more consideration regarding the problem at hand. The impending choice to drop the development of the plant served as a jump start for the formation of anti-atomic gatherings in Germany. Then again, over the accompanying years not all developments were as fruitful. Germanys biggest protest to nuclear energy, which occurred in 1981 united many demonstrators to protest against the development of a nuclear plant in Brokdorf. The plant was built and is still in operation. It is planned to stay in operation for a long time to come. Around 1975 and 1987 there were a couple of small mishaps in the German plants. Some of these mishaps contaminated nearby areas, radiation discharge, open flames and harm to plants. Furthermore, while numerous individuals were, at that point, worried about the safety of atomic energy plants even before these mishaps, dread of nuclear energy was seriously increased by the Chernobyl plant explosion in 1986. The mishap had a substantial effect on Germany, defiling numerous zones with radiation, debilitating the populaces prosperity and additionally the wellbeing of water and nourishment supplies. These impacts gave new strength to hostile anti-atomic groups in Germany and around the globe. None the less, vast scale catastrophes(Chernobyl) were not Germanys sole concern. Atomic waste had previously been a worry beginning in the 1950s. In 1977, a proposition had been made to utilize salt mines in the city of Gorleben as a hold for atomic waste, yet arguments broke out and the arrangement was surrendered. But, the area is as of now being utilized as interval stockpiling and there are continuous rallys when waste is brought to the area. Numerous people contended that the expense and the danger connected with waste were reason enough to not put resources into atomic energy in Germany, yet the nation still kept utilizing its atomic energy plants. By 2002, 19 atomic energy plants were in operation in Germany, while the nation stayed reliant on transitory waste stockpiling locales and dispatched atomic material to Britain and France. By 2005, Germany quit delivery abroad yet at the same time had only temporary stockpiling sites With the opposition to atomic development exhibiting a solid resistance, Germanys atomic energy system wavered for many years. Two reactors were erected in 1991, but failed to stay open squandering colossal amounts of cash. The thought of moving from atomic energy had been authoritatively exhibited in 1980 by a German Commission. The Green party, which contradicted the utilization of atomic energy from the onset, popped up around the same time and immediately picked up space inside German governmental issues. The gathering first won seats in the commission in 1983 and, in 1998, with the Schrà ¶der organization, it was advertised that Germany would move away from atomic energy and capital would be funneled towards renewable energy. After the tragedy in Japan, Germany under the helm of Chancellor Merkel made an abrupt change in policy and implemented a complete phaseout away from nuclear energy in 2011 speeding up Schrà ¶ders policy in 2000. But, while the German public can hardly be accused of panicking, Chancellor Merkel certainly did. Had she merely continued the previous nuclear phaseout and decided to maintain patience, the effects might not have been so detrimental. Nuclear Power in Germany Germany until March 2011 obtained one quarter of its electricity from nuclear energy, using 17 reactors. The figure is now about 18%. A coalition government formed after the 1998 federal elections had the phasing out of nuclear energy as a feature of its policy. With a new government in 2009, the phase-out was canceled, but then reintroduced in 2011, with eight reactors shut down immediately. The cost of attempting to replace nuclear power with renewables is estimated by the government to amount to some EUR 1 trillion without any assurance of a reliable outcome, and with increasing reliance on coal. Public opinion in Germany remains ambivalent and at present does not support building new nuclear plants. More than half of Germany’s electricity was generated from coal in the first half of 2013, compared with 43% in 2010. Germany has some of the lowest wholesale electricity prices in Europe and some of the highest retail prices, due to its energy policies. His present-day successor, Angela Merkel, knows perfectly well that her decision to phase out all nuclear power stations by 2022 makes no scientific or economic sense. In fact, she said so herself as recently as two months ago, when she promised that Germany would not let itself be rushed into abandoning nuclear power by the Fukushima accident in Japan.†- the telegraph This quote says it all..I believe Germany panicked into phasing out all nuclear energy by 2022. Too many German citizens protested against a nuclear future following the Fukushima explosion relying on emotions from the past and allowed it to cloud their judgment. Relying solely on renewable energy is a bad idea in my opinion. Studies have suggested that it will be extremely detrimental to the environment with the current technologies. France, on the other hand, is headed in the right direction but seems shortsighted and naive about the future. France, Germany and other countries should be looking at alternative nuclear reactors such as: the Integral Fast Reactor. The Integral Fast Reactor is a plant that has been in the staging phase for a considerable length of time. In any case it has yet to be assembled, stating that it requires large amounts of capital. While it is expensive, this fourth era atomic plant would be far more secure than what we have now, and would be powered totally from the waste of current atomic plants. Fast Reactors would burn 99% of their fuel and create minimal harmful waste. Our current renewable energy plan is not viable considering it would require the further degradation of the atmosphere by way of coal burning to implement it. Also, it will cost much more to maintain than the Fast Reactors would. Gender Identity Paper

Gender Identity Paper PSY/340 Wendy Gray April 30, 2012 Kale Kirkland First let me start by trying to explain what gender identity is. Gender Identity is a sense of being either man or woman and you or a particular group such a male or female. When a person is confused about what gender they are than you have problems which arise such as a male thinking they should be a female and a male thinking they should be a female. Hormones are a chemical messenger which produce in different glands then secreted to the necessary place which causes certain biological activity to take place.A hormone is a chemical release that alters the metabolism. There are certain hormones that are released by the pituitary gland or thyroid gland that are known to promote certain behavior. This can be seen in women mostly because the hormone will affect the way a women acts and can cause so mood changes which can be bad. Hormones have the capability to affect the neurons in the brain cells and in return this a lso can cause some certain behaviors. Hormones do play a huge role in the functioning of the body and the immune system. This area is a place where you can see the behavior change as a person gets older and things in the body start to change so does the levels of hormones. When a women is going through the change of life you can see such behavior as suspicion, anxiety which makes it hard to live and get along with this person. I feel that where and how a person grows up will and can affect the gender in which they believe they are. If a child that is a male and his family tries to raise him as a female this is going to affect this child and bring confusion about who he truly is.I feel it would be the same way is a female is raised a male it will confuse them in to thinking they are a male. Male and females brains are different and I do not think that people understand this and it causes confusion in the children so there in a fight trying to figure out what gender they are. Psycholog ists have found that children who are really smart at math were characterized with unusual physical attributes. You have to think biological things do not change as much as environmental things can. You an be in a place one minute and the next you are out so this can happen fast. Socialization can be another place where it will affect a person’s gender identity I know these days many kids can be cruel and say things to make others question who they really are. Society also plays a role in this because in this world you are to be a certain way and behavior a certain way. Society has defined who we are sometimes even if someone gets hurt in the process. I feel society does play to much of a role on how a male is to act and how a female is to act.Society also plays a role with the kind of work we are to have and it is no wonder we have so many people with the disorder gender identity disorder which is defined by strong feelings of identification with the opposite gender and not comfortable with one’s own assigned sex though not all people believe this disorder is even a disorder but a mental disorder. You have to understand that as a child trying to find out who you are you will be influenced by the people around you and they will imitate gender behaviors of the one’s they love the most, so if you are confused by who you are your child will mostly go through the same problem.Sexual differentiation is a biological process unlike gender identity. Gender identity is developed under influences of thins like environmental factors and social reinforcement also things like language and parental examples. The brain has a lot to do with who we are and how we work. Men and women have different brains and this cause as to define who we are different and when this is messed with it cause confusion. Children learn what is welcomed and what is not. They learn what behavior is acceptable and what will affect who they define themselves as. Rogers (Roberts, 20 09) suggests that sex-differentiated behavior has more biological basis. He also feel that the environment can affect the brain and ultimately behavior. As one learns, feedbacks mechanisms and behavior are altered; the brain changes (Roberts, 2000). In all it will come down to whom we believe we are you see many people from TV who so not even know who they are because they have been altered to be a certain person.I think as a psychologist we can study all we want to and try to figure out how to get things like gender identity disorder fixed but still in the end it will be up to us. If a person is confused about what gender they are I fell it would be good for that person to get help and try to find out who they are. I do feel that TV and things like computers are making people confused about who they are. Let’s say you have someone on TV you want to be like and this could become so much that as a person you try to be who that TV star is.Psychologists still do not know to what extent that biological causes that may affect underline sex difference but the evidence is growing that such factors can be explained at least some behavioral differences between men and women. The brain plays a huge role on the sexual behavior of male and female. The hypothalamus and the amygdale are parts of the brain that control sexual functioning. It is also clear that your environment can have a critical effect in producing sex and gender differences. I feel have all the brain functioning as it should does help to make the right choice. The brain has so many parts and if something is off it can cause a person to not be able to function proper. I know if a person has emotional problems this will effect everything about that person even who they are. I feel if the person can get the right medication then they can begin to feel better and learn who they are. The effects of gender go beyond the mere biological fact because men and women do not have the same roles like a woman is s tereotyped as a housewife, secretary and mother you do not see many men with this stereotype. In the world today this has changed some but it does still go on. To me I feel that the way you grow will be the strongest effect on what gender you choose because I know that parents are usually the example that a child will follow. I know that that may not always be the case but most times it is. If a child grows with parents that tell them all the time I wished you would have be a girl and you are a boy you will begin to hate who you are and want to change your gender to please your parents.Your mind will be so confused about your identity because your parents choose to remind you over and over and this does play with the mind of a child. In the end as a parent I feel we should be aware of what we are teaching our children so that when they grow up they are not facing with what to be a male or female. I feel we should give them the support and a loving environment they need to grow into a healthy adult. I understand that the brain can play a role in this also and that there are so many other factors that can effect a person who is trying to figure out what gender they are.Learning who you are can be hard if you are dealing with a disorder this is when I feel a psychologist should be brought in to help you understand what is going on in your References: Lazarre, S.
